I had the pleasure of meeting Erin Bowman at this years RT Convention in Nola. She was everything you’d hope an author to be: funny, engaging, banters like she could be your bff. You know what I mean? So, when I started reading this book I reeeeeally wanted to love it. I mea, she’s awesome so her book will be awesome too, right? RIGHT?? Unfortunately, no. It wasn’t awesome. It was a solid good. A confident good.

What I liked about the book was the plot. It was original and twisty turney, even though some parts felt a little stale to me. Sometimes dystopian novels feel the same, in certain ways, which made me have deja vu a lot. It happens. The writing was witty but on the simple side, no flowery prose here. The characters were okay…I didn’t love our MC, he got on my nerves a little bit, and the rest were decent. The one thing that made me shake my head was the love….wait for it….triangle. Yep! I hear you guys rolling your eyes. This one was a doozy.

One last thing, I was taken aback by this…in this book, kids 15 and up are promoted to have sex and they drink and stuff. I just thought that was a little odd.

Anyway, I’ve got the sequel to this one and honestly, I want to know what happens next so I’ll be reading it. Maybe there will be mega redemption going on. *crosses fingers*

  1. Haha, I was totally feeling the same when I read those kids being 15+ scenes! Anyways, for me, the love triangle wasn’t that bad as I expected it to be…it was really awkward at first, just like the male first-person POV. But I think it really worked out in this book (or at least I think I know with whom he’ll end with 😀 ) !
