My First Book Convention

Today I dragged my best good friend, Stephanie, to the RT Booklovers Convention in downtown New Orleans just so I could harass my favorite authors into signing my books….and it was AWESOME!!! I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was wall to wall booknerds who were fangirling just like me. Anyway, I wanted to share the pictures I took and the inscriptions I received. Every single one of these women were sincere, funny and happy to be there. Oh and not to mention TALENTED AS ALL GET OUT!

Ps. I wore my Out of Print Library Stamp shirt and got compliments from just about all of the authors. So, I think that was a win 🙂

Leigh Bardugo, author of the Grisha Trilogy. She totally remembered my blog name. I was thrilled, to say the least.

Beth Revis, author of Across the Universe trilogy. She was so fun to meet and graciously laughed when I said, “Thanks for this *points at trilogy* trip…across the universe.” I did apologize for said terrible pun but she laughed and kept signing.

Gayle Forman was so incredible. She loved that I had the “old school” hardback of If I Stay. She said it’s like a badge letting her know I’ve been here since the start. Pretty cool stuff!

M. G. Buehrlen was too cool! She had “Talk nerdy to me” stickers which prompted a mini-convo about Target and whether or not they still sold a canvas with the same saying. It was fun.

Stephanie Perkins was so cute and charming. She marked through the “a” in Anna and wrote in “ette”…I was like, “Awwww that’s so awesome!” Her books are fantastic and no wonder… so is she!

Erin Bowman was the first author I met today. She was so kind and even though I was nervous, she made me feel right at home.

April Tucholke was a surprise for me. I didn’t know she’d be there today and I’ve had her book on my TBR list since its release. She was so awesome.

She made her “A” look like a devil…how clever!

  1. This is awesome. I wish I lived in a big city (like I used to!) so I could attend things like this – I have still yet to be afforded the opportunity. Your trip sounds awesome, though. Thanks for sharing!

    • Thank you:) This was my first and I hope not my last! Hopefully something like this will be near enough to you so you can make the trip! It was fun & I’m still giddy over it. 😀

  2. I’m so jealous. I’ve never been to a book convention before and it sounds like heaven. They’ve set up the first ever YA convention this year in the UK in June but it’s in London and I’m too broke and busy so I can’t go *le sobbing*

    • Awwww no!!! I wish I could help you get there! Is it the HAY convention? Or something to that effect? I read it somewhere on here. Dang it. You’ll get there, girl! You must!!

      • Nah this one is a YALC set up by malorie Blackman, its the first year this year. I am planning on doing a day trip to hay on Wye with a friend and my dad this summer though. Just not for the festival

      • That’s cool:) I’ve never been to London or anywhere outside of the continental US before. It’s my goal though! I’ll look you up when I make it! I’ll have to look up the YALC! Too bad you won’t be able to make it.

  3. Sounds like you had such an awesome time! Book events are so fun – in fact I was at one yesterday! Leigh Bardugo was actually originally scheduled to attend. I love getting to meet authors. It’s such a rewarding experience!

    • Thank you, Emily!! It was too much fun. I was like a kid in a candy store. Oh no, we snaked Leigh from you!! I’m sorry. I hope you get to meet her, she’s so down to earth! You’re right, it was so rewarding. I can’t wait to attend more:)

  4. Oh my! So nice! Stephanie Perkins (I’d told her I’m so in love with Etienne it’s not even funny), Gayle forman (Can’t wait for the movie) and Beth Revis (I have her trilogy in my TBR). Also, I know Sasha (a booktuber I adored) was there. To sum up: I’m so jelous right now!

Are you gonna keep going to this events? They really seem fun!

    • 🙂 St. Claire was such a great character. Too funny you told her so! She was a doll! I can’t wait for the movie either, I’ll probably cry the whole time! Across the Universe is good (the second one drags a bit but it’s ok). I’ve heard of, but not yet watched, booktube. I would love to continue to hunt down these events. I have such a cast collection of books that are begging to be signed:) plus I loved meeting these authors. It was so rewarding!

  5. That is so amazing! I’m fangirling with you and squealing, haha! It sounds like you had an amazing experience, and I’m so excited for when my first book convention rolls along. Of course, knowing me, I’d probably be so nervous that I’d consider backing out (I wouldn’t, though).

    • Yay!!! Squeeee:) it was awesome. And yeah, you’ll be nervous (my hands were shaking) but they’ll make you feel comfy and you will find yourself easing into it all! I can’t wait to hear all about your experience!!!
